#HP 8600 SOFTWARE WONT OPEN UPDATE#
I'm curious to know if the firmware update will attack this procedure, so let us know please. I'm still only using 2 cartridges to do the swap, but I haven't updated my firmware either. My printer was bought on may 2013, but before knowing of the swap procedure I've updated the printer with the latest November 2014 firmware. I hope this is true only for some recent models. Apparently the printer knows if the previous cartridge was put back into it, but it can only remember the last one, so if you use cartridge #1 & it goes empty, put cartridge #2 in, then when #2 empties, you put #1 (refilled) back in and it should work, and then refill & use #2 when the refilled #1 goes empty.Īccording to the site below, you have to swap up to 4 HP cartridges ! You can't refill one & put it right back in - you have to use a different one, but you can swap them out each time. The trick is simply to use 2 OEM cartridges. I've done a lot of research on this today and it seems that you can't swap out or reset an HP OEM cartridge chip anymore, but you don't need to. I've seen some people use tape to hold the stopper in also, but I don't need that with these rubber stoppers.Įdited by EllisDeTripp, 15 January 2015 - 09:46 AM. They have a little tab/handle on them & they come in various colors, and they work due to compression & elasticity - the stopper is just a bit bigger than the hole & they're flexible enough to squeeze in there, seal the hole & not come out unless you pull hard on them. I've tried using some colored rubber stoppers that I found on eBay & they stayed in with no problem. It was a clear hard plastic stopper & it didn't stay in. I had one that leaked and the problem was the stopper I used that I was provided with by the ink seller which I used to plug the refill hole. Since I printed 22,000 pages this past year, it is a lot of ink and cost.Īny suggestions would be appreciated. (So I now have several dozen empty cartridges available.) I purchase direct form HP using coupons codes, but it still cost about a nickel a page to print. Since then I have used only original new HP cartridges 950xl and 951xl.

Has anyone had this experience? I had to replace the print head to solve the problem and go to all new cartridges. I have found 2 other individuals who have had the same experience with the black getting into the yellow cartridge. I tried new-refilled cartridges again and the same thing happened. So the black actually got into the yellow cartridge.

Taking them out, and checking the ink in the yellow cartridge, it was was a yellow black. When I inserted the refilled cartridges, the black ink infiltrated the yellow, which printed the yellow colors a black tint. It should be noted the the type of ink in the 8100 & 8600 is not the same type as used in many other HP printers. I got the cartridges to refill and work, using the swap of cartridges method mention earlier. I just found these comments related to the HP 8100/8600, and have a related question.
